English 10
Each English class reviews students on basic grammar to advance their grammatical knowledge to the level of competence in the English Curriculum Guide. Students continue the study of grammar principles as the writing assignments become progressively more difficult through each grade level. Five paragraph essay writing and following the Six-Trait Analysis emphasize proving a thesis and supporting a topic sentence with details wile using advanced descriptives and powerful action word to enhance vocabulary. The study of literature progresses simultaneously with student writing. To decide student grades, teachers use objective and subjective exams, written assignments, and daily class preparation.

Journalism III (Y)
Yearbook Production. This course, like J III (N) is a production oriented course leading to the publication of the school's yearbook, the BLUEJAY. Student responsibilities begin prior to the school year with preliminary planning with the adviser, the organization and initiation of the advertising sales campaign, the subscription sales campaign prior to the opening of school in the fall, and the distribution of th previous year's book. During the coming two semesters, students will gather information, write and edit copy, wirte headlines and design grapics using Photoshop, Pagemaker and various word processing programs. Members of the yearbook staff will comptet in the KSPA Regional Contests at FHSU in Febuary. Registration for the course is obtained only by completing and application form and receiving permission to register from the instructor.

Journalism III (N)
Newspaper Production. Students use computer aplications of word processing, desktop publishing and graphic design to publish a minimum of 9 edition of the Nugget, the official NCHS newspaper, during the year. Staff members sell and service the advertising published in the newspaper, and cover, write, edit and prepare for camera-ready publication each issue of the paper. Grading of student work includes evaluation of individual effort in the position to which the student is assigned adn done following each issue. Members of the newspaper staff will compete in the KSPA Regional Contests at FHSU in February. Registration for the course is obtained only by completing an application form and recieving permission to register for the instructor.
